Task D - Character Desigh (Final Design)
D.I.Y.
Jamie Reid
You could track style he uses way back to DADAs work. What is revealing about Reid’s work, whether seen in the context of the current neo-punk revival or viewed as a retrospective, are the elements of humour, spontaneity and political commitment which have survived intact over the last three decades. Reid has avoided joining the ranks of mainstream graphic design and the commercial fine art establishment, opting instead to continue to subvert conventional forms of art and design practice.
Street Art
This time I concentrated more on street art, I came across Banksy Film "Exit threw the gift shop".
"A fascinating documentary focusing on an eccentric guy that decided to film the work of street artists, which could make eternal their ephemeral art. It is both a record of the movement and an amusing character study - while also making us question the nature and value of art itself." -Carlos Magalhaes
"I
don't think Thierry played by the rules in some ways; but, then there
are not suposed to be any rules. So, I don't really know what mine is. I
mean I always used to encourage everyone I met to make art, I used to
think everyone should do it. I don't do that so much anymore." -Banksy
"He
kind of the rightful heir to Andy Warhol in a way. Andy Warhol made a
statement by repeating famous icons until they became meaningless. But,
he was extremely iconic in the way he did it. But, then Thierry really
made them meaningless." - Banksy
Banksy "Existencilism" Book Quotes
"There's nothing more dangerous than someone who wants to make the world a better place" - Banksy
From book Existencilism by Banksy
Hanksy, parody of Banksy, if Banksy did not existed hanksy would not also.
PARODY
Paperman Original Disney
Paperman Collegehumor Parody
Parody usually puts us in totally different point of view from originally intended work, that would not exist without original copy.
The same thing happens with cassettboy and his remakes of famous and iconic figures by using sampling method. They all are interesting and entertaining piece of work. His parodies are touching media and also political issues.
INTERENT CULTURE
People
make culture and culture always make more better culture. It's hard to
say what internet culture exist for, pure expression, entertainment who
knows? Never before had so many people made so much culture so quickly
across so may mediums for no recognition. But seeing image you never
seen before on internet that happen all the time. People realize they
have power in their voice, they take power and use it,
to express their ideas, they use power to use into cause they believe
in,
its in a way like activism also influential. lets call it POST MODERN ANARCHY
"Creating
images together as never been so easy or widespread. It's part of who
you are, it's part of your group identity" - Olivia Gulin
"The people who make and the people who watch are slowly becoming the same group" - Mike Rugnetta
It's Internet culture now, but maybe some day it will become Popular culture.
How Street art inspired My Character?
Sketches of different Street Artist Styles
Being inspired by street artists like ROA, Banksy, Hanksy, Scampi, Vango, Dolk and many more, I came up with idea for character in graffiti form. As we know graffiti presents what it presents. I wanted to create character that also will have mind on his own and his presentation and actions will not depend on creator from the moment on he put his last spray can mark on this graffiti.
I wanted this character to engage with other graffiti, change them to put his own twist on their original presentation to create his own view in positive and different, funny way.
Here are some idea sketches
Why Raccoon?
Curiosity, Playful Energy, Inquisitiveness, Dexterity. All qualities that I would like my Character to have are already in him. He loves to explore new grounds so why not explore different graffiti. He maybe look cute but he is intelligent thief, that destroy peoples homes and property but as My Character hes a little rebel. Ⓐ
