 Lightning Sketch 1907

In Lightning Sketch (1907), artist, vaudeville performer, and film producer James Stuart Blackton demonstrates the art of the lightning sketch. In the process of converting the words "coon" and "cohen" into stereotypical images of a blackface minstrel (or black man) and a Jew, Blackton demonstrates vaudeville's (and animation's) celebration of the transformation of morphology into power relations.
